I have a family member with a wicked sense of humor and ideas, but not enough patience to capture them on paper. He's also a bit of a reluctant reader. I think the way I avoid burnout/exhaustion is that I do write in several genres. If I were writing the same type of book over and over again I imagine it would be easy to get fatigued.
