Here's where a complete blueprint really helps. I've found having the structure already laid out enables you to jump right back into the story at any point.

Especially on my first novel, I would write various scenes at various points in the plot, then weave them together by filling in the "gaps" between them.

By knowing what's going to happen, you can put in your foreshadowing/hooks as you go.

In my Real Life as a technical writer, I've got to jump around among several projects -- having them outlined/blueprinted lets me pick up almost exactly where I left off.

Great advice! And I think it applies to anyone attempting more than one project at once, regardless if the worlds are particularly special or not. (Unless the books are companion novels or whatever.) Thanks, Ann!

Thanks for the post. That is something I've been wondering about too. I've written short stories while writing a novel but I haven't as yet tried to write two different novels at the same time. I am wary of trying. I worry I'll find it too difficult to juggle two genres, two worlds, two different sets of characters and I'll wind up losing something (that magical muse) in the process.

Have you every run into problems trying to juggle two projects like this before?
