I have had the pleasure of reading Marilyn's book and, for anyone wondering if they should read it, the answer is a resounding YES! It is just one of those books that captures your attention, heart and soul from the very first encounter with Ellie and Sam and makes you want to spend the rest of your life reading about them. It is a fabulous story and I just can't think of enough adjectives that would do it justice. I don't often recommend a book this strongly, but this one is an exception.

Hi Donnell!!
And, wow--thank you. You made my evening. :)
In answer to your question, I remember thinking even way back when I was in high school how applicable Austen's observations in Pride & Prejudice were to contemporary life. If a teen were at prom now, how different was that experience really from those balls Regency girls attended? Or, if there were a group of jealous, mean-spirited people (like Caroline Bingley and her sister), how different in essentials would it be to interact with a snobby high-school clique of today? So, getting to point out some of those similarities across the centuries really speaks more to Austen's genius for universality than to my writing (!!), but I'm still so, so glad you enjoyed my story!

Marilyn (Hi Therese): I finished According to Jane last night. What a pleasure. For anyone who was a geek, or who had a tumultuous time in high school and into adulthood, According to Jane, is for you. And the concept, Marilyn. Priceless. How did you come up with it? I can see you reading Austin and feeling a kindred spirit, but to turn it into a contemporary and incorporate the angst of Ellie Barnett - I think my favorite part, besides the ending where there's been so much growth, was Ellie's trip to England. Congratulations!

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your comments, and an extra hug to Therese for having me as a WU guest. You've all brightened up my rainy Friday!

RKCharron~I'm so glad you enjoyed the interview!

LJCohen~Hey!! How thoughtful of you to stop by to see me, L. ;-)

Kristan~LOL! I forgot to say I also use too many lists when I'm writing--but I really love *your* list, so please don't give up writing them!! Thank you.

Ann~So lovely to see you here!! And I'm beyond slow... I'm well into "glacial" when it comes to drafting times. That the industry moves at a pace that's even slower is always surprising and endlessly perplexing :).

Thea~Thank you!! If you read it, I truly hope you'll enjoy it.

Another lovely interview! I was relieved to read that Marilyn is a slow writer; I write like a tortoise! Some interesting insights into how one's life changes after a book is accepted for publication. And, although I always knew that publishing was a slow business, I was truly surprised at how long the whole thing takes from signing with an agent to debut on the shelves!!

Best of luck to Marilyn with her debut novel.

Reasons I love this woman:

1. "So I guess I’m a plotter-pantser mix. A plotser?!"

2. "Oh, sigh… I have prologues sometimes. I use long, windy sentences. And adverbs. I “quote” far too many things. (And I put too many others in parentheses.) Really, I break lots of rules. I try, however, not to break them out of simple laziness. I write to please and entertain the reader in me."

Thanks for this interview, and good luck with the book!
