Therese, as always, you and Writers Unboxed are extremely enlightening. DVT is a serious issue for the general population. For writers, it's critical knowledge that we must heed. As we get into genetic research, we're finding that a certain percentage of the population carry antibodies or genes that promote blood clotting. Consider NBC correspondent David Bloom who died from a pulmonary embolism while covering the war in Iraq. His autopsy revealed he carried the Factor V Leiden gene. A relatively new antibody (discovered within the last 50 years or so) called Anticardiolipen antibody also promotes blood clots. Do these inherited traits end a writing career. Absolutely not! You nailed it set your timer for every two hours, have a large container of water by your desk (and drink it :))). This will force you to get up to relieve yourself, and the number one piece of advice for all writers is... Get up and move! Thanks for the reminder, Therese, think I'll go for a walk.

Teri,
Not something you expect to find on a writing website, but definitely something of which we all should be reminded. As a physician myself, I've tried to heed these warnings but never thought to warn others. Thanks for the reminder.
