I've read enough books on writing by now, but bought a couple more specifically centered around scenes because I'm at a point where I don't need to hear any more 'high level' rules, and need a bit more reference for the nitty gritty stuff. Also picked up,The Scene Book: A Primer for the Fiction Writer. Not sure if those'd be any help or not. I loved it for so long that I couldn't see how it was just a bunch of backstory that didn't move the story along at all. Now it reads so much better without it. Not. Gunna. Happen. I like an opening that seamlessly pulls the reader into the character's problem from the get-go. I don't have to be clobbered over the head, but I like to know that the storyteller has a way with words and I'm going to be able to turn the editor in my head off.
