Writer’s Holiday

Do you ever have one of those days where everything seems to work out? Crazy, I know! Most days I lurch from crisis to crisis, so when my head hits the pillow I already mourn time lost to the banality of X (fill in the blank, annoying co-worker, freak illnesses, telemarketer).
But yesterday, ah, what a day! A lovely writer’s holiday.
In the morning after time spent working on my wip, I opened my e-mail to see that JASON STARR has agreed to become a contributor to WU. For those who haven’t read our interview with Jason, he’s an award-winning, multi-bestselling author in noir and crime fiction genre. He’s also a very cool guy with many insights into the crazy business of being a novelist. We’re still working out the details, but Therese and I are pleased that Jason’s agreed to blog with the rest of our terrific authors.
Then, onto a lovely luncheon with several of my writer friends, including Therese. She’d just finished wrapping up an interview with screenwriter DALE LAUNER which was funny as hell and made me add Ruthless People (one of his screenplays) to my Netflix queue. Over gourmet pizza and wine, we discussed Mary Sues and other crap that only writers care about. Some days you need to be with those who really get the business.
Finally, I headed home anticipating my phone interview with JASPER FFORDE, author of the wildly popular Thursday Next series, and the hysterically funny Nursery Crime books. Let me just say right now, our interview with Jasper is going to knock everyone’s socks off (sorry, cliche, koff) because he’s not only as funny as his books, but he’s meticulous about the craft of writing. He’s had some hard knocks along the way to the top of the bestsellers’ lists, and his journey is inspirational.
And we had some cool news about some of our former interviewees:
According to Allison Brennan’s site, her novel ‘”SEE NO EVIL debuted at #20 on the NYT list and #41 on the USAT list. ” She’s also just released a new book this month called FEAR NO EVIL, the third in a rapid-fire trilogy (she released them in three consecutive months!). THE KILL, a novel she released about a year ago, is a RITA finalist for Best Romantic Suspense. She has a new six-book deal with Ballantine. AND her latest release was featured in this week’s WalMart circular, which is truly bigtime.
Another one of WU’s interviewee-alumni, Deidre Knight, had her latest, Parallel Seduction, released on April 3rd.
The day ended with my kid cleaning up after herself and my husband unloading the dishwasher. The perfect end to a perfect day. Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that make it worth living.

Sounds like a truly lovely day. :)

God, I didn’t even talk about the chocolate cake! Therese, you should post the recipe as a public service to chocoholics. Then we can all go into a coma over how good it was.
