Oh, look... I scrolled too fast!

Some other comments were posted before, in part 1 - however

Thinks (yes, I meant thinks) I made notes on already discussed:
Monkey with gold coin: Check

Dice Game: Check, though on a side note, the men in DJ's service were betting their years of service. I think the initial contract was not a lifetime in the deep, but 100 years of service on the Flying Dutchman. What Bootstrap ended up with was an eternity of service, because he lost.

The Kiss: ICK... but as Rene said, she needed to distract him, and in her mind, Liz was sending Jack to his death. If it didn't work out for her and Will after the adventure, Jack wouldn't be around to even be tempting. She HAD to kiss him, much as I disliked it, because she knew she'd never have the chance again.

Norington's motivation: Check

One thing that still puzzles me - DJ's heart and the dirt in the jar. Jones could not set foot on soil (that's why the hammer head guy and the headless crab were chazing the trio in the forest), so it stood to reason that Jack would toss the soil in front of Jones on the Dutchman and Jones would 'poof', loose his position as Cap'n of the Dutchman or something.

So why then, when the heart was placed in Jake's jar of dirt, was Jones not impacted in some way?

I have the new DVD but I'm waiting until this weekend to watch it. Maybe, as has already been said, some of the answers we seek will be within the bonus material.

Thanks again, Ladies. WONDERFUL and thought provoking breakdown.

Elizabeth is the "Good Girl" and Jack is the "Bad Boy" and who doesn't want to taste that at least once in their life?! I thought it was hot! Yes, Will's feelings are hurt but the attraction was inevitable!

Ooh, thanks for the illumination on the dice game, Honey. I'll have to watch more carefully once the DVD comes out. And now that you mention it, Mary, that moment when the monkey goes back for the gold is coming back to me! Phew. I should've asked my kids; they undoubtedly would've had all the answers. ;)

I love all the comments. Thanks for chiming in, everyone!

About the dice game - there's a game called Perudo that's essentially the same. When the die are cast, nobody knows what's under anyone else's cups. Everyone continues to guess in increasing increments until someone calls bluff. At that point all the dice are revealed, and you count to see if the guess that was last called was correct. So if the guess was five 6's, and there aren't five sixes, the person calling the bluff would win. But if there are five sixes, the person calling the bluff loses. In the dice scene in DMC, Davy Jones was about to call Will's bluff, and Bootstrap "saved" him by throwing out the next guess. Except Will would've won if Bootstrap had kept his mouth shut and let Davy Jones call it. :)

Great analysis of the movie. Thanks!!

These are great insights. Rene, your interpretation makes me feel a little better about that kiss though it still makes me vomit a little in my mouth to think of it. And I thought I was hardcore PotC fan, Mary, but I didn't catch the bit with the monkey in the first one. So thanks! :-)

I agree with pretty much everything above :o) but I have to point out that the monkey isn't really a loose end. If you watch Curse of the Black Pearl all the way to the end of the credits, you get to see that the monkey goes back and takes a gold piece out of the chest. So, he's cursed all over again.

Great post, ladies!

great dish indeed ... I have to agree that the silly plot contrivances of DMC didn't matter one bit since it was such a fun ride, even if it was a bit too long

I agree with Rene. But I think that there is a bit of an apology in it too, because she knows that to save herself and Will, she's sacrificing Jack.

Perhaps she finally got the joke about her sitting on the very thing his heart desired most.

I think people have really missed the point behind the kiss, including Will Turner. She kissed Sparrow for two reasons: one, she's curious and two, she needed to distract him. Elizabeth has no real desire for Jack, she is tempted by him because he offers her a life she is attracted to-piracy. Will is stable and boring, she loves him but is intrigued by what Jack has to offer. The truly horrible thing she did was chain Jack to the mast, knowing she was leaving him to certain death. It was a piratical act which runs contrary to how she is supposed to behave. Hurt as Will is about the kiss, how much more devastated would he be if he realized his betrothed was capable of such an act? I don't really think Elizabeth cares much about Jack personally, but she is having a hard time living with what she did.
